About the SSP

by SSP National Secretary Kevin McVey

Kevin McVey

The Scottish Socialist Party is a modern, fresh, forward-looking party which dares to be different.

We despise the culture of greed, corruption and egomania which infests traditional politics. And we reject the stale, bland conformism of the mainstream parties. Their time has come and gone.

The SSP is an anti-capitalist, pro-independence party, with a vision of socialism that is geared to the future rather than rooted in the past.

Our mission is to transform Scotland into an international symbol of equality, peace, justice and freedom.

We don’t pretend we can achieve that overnight. We’re here for the long haul. And we want your help.

We don’t expect you to agree with everything – only a party of zombies could ever be 100 per cent united. But if you broadly support our goal of a socialist Scotland, then we’d love to hear from you.  Contact us here...

SSP letter to Pakistan Consulate in the UK

22.07.2010

Consulate general of Pakistan

137 Dickenson Road
Rusholme

F.A.O: Mr. Ehsan Ullah Batth

Consul General

Dear Sir,

We are appalled at the news coming out of Faisalabad, Pakistan, that the Chief of police, Aftab Cheema and his men, have arrested over 100 workers engaged in a legal strike and protest over their employers failing to raise their wages by the amount agreed by the Pakistani Government as a minimum wage.

It is with anger that we hear of members of the Labour Qaumi Movement being subjected to violence and threats for protesting peacefully to receive what is rightfully belongs to them.
All this is on top of the Murder of two of their union organisers on July 6th, Mr Mustansar Rindhawa and his younger brother Naseer is something that we, here in Scotland, cannot comprehend.
We demand the release of these workers and for the Pakistani Government to intervene to stop this barbarism and to recognise the rights of its own citizens.

We await your reply
