About the SSP

by SSP National Secretary Kevin McVey

Kevin McVey

The Scottish Socialist Party is a modern, fresh, forward-looking party which dares to be different.

We despise the culture of greed, corruption and egomania which infests traditional politics. And we reject the stale, bland conformism of the mainstream parties. Their time has come and gone.

The SSP is an anti-capitalist, pro-independence party, with a vision of socialism that is geared to the future rather than rooted in the past.

Our mission is to transform Scotland into an international symbol of equality, peace, justice and freedom.

We don’t pretend we can achieve that overnight. We’re here for the long haul. And we want your help.

We don’t expect you to agree with everything – only a party of zombies could ever be 100 per cent united. But if you broadly support our goal of a socialist Scotland, then we’d love to hear from you.  Contact us here...

Treasury figures confirm SSP prediction of 100,000 jobs facing the axe

by Ken Ferguson 30-06-2010

Unique among those contesting the Westminster election eight weeks ago the Scottish Socialist Party told the truth about the jobs carnage planned by the big business parties when it warned that 100,000 jobs were at risk.

That is the inescapable conclusion wth the leaking of secret figures from the British Treasury showing 1.3 million UK jobs will be lost as result of the Condem cuts.

So while we were treated to an X factor style “debates” which sold the now totally discredited tale that Nick Clegg was progressive and the big lie that Vince Cable was against cuts the real policy remained under wraps.

All the major Westminster parties adopted a Basil Faulty style “don't mention the cuts” line with the worst offenders, the fork tongued Lib Dems, saying one thing then and backing its polar opposite now.

With their partners  in crime the Tories, Clegg’s two faced MPs are set to unleash a jobs and services scorched earth policy on the public in order to pay off the parcel of rogue bankers who caused the crisis.

Meanwhile New Labour—who had similar if slightly longer term plans for cuts—wring their hands and blame the coalition while the SNP denounce the cuts as they sharpen the tartan axe for later.

One again the SSP will tell it straight: we the public didn’t  cause the problem and we refuse to pick up the bill.

Why should jobs be lost and young and old loses services so that the revolting city reptiles can keep coining their obscene mega bucks?

Public anger is rising and will grow as the full horror of the cuts is revealed to the public and in recent days we have seen protest in cities and towns across Scotland.

If the Condems are to be defeated—and it is important to underline the fact that they can be—then unions, communities, young, old, city and country will need to build a massive movement with the single message of no to sackings and cuts.

An important step in building such a movement would be an all Scotland demonstration  organised by the STUC to drive home the message of resistance.

Such an event is now urgent and to have the maximum impact needs to happen before the Westminster axe men unveil their plans on 22nd October.

There is no time to lose.
